Flavor -

Wednesday, November 27, 2019

I was worried that going meatless was going to lack flavor. I live in the deep south and most people add animal fat to their cooked vegetables.

But then, I realized that people coat their meat with sauce; hot sauce, BBQ, honey mustard, salsa, chow chow, ketchup, steak sauce, etc. The sauces are quite literally the flavors of fruits and vegetables. If I find my food is lacking flavor or texture it is a lack of imagination.

I am just trying to be openminded and make sure that I consider different flavors and how they work together.

I am making acorn squash with wild rice stuffing, green beans, mixed green salad, sweet potatoes, roasted turnips, cranberry sauce, with a pumpkin & oat desert. I will also cook a small turkey for family members.

Thank you for this blog, I've been thinking about sauces a lot lately, and you're soooo right. The biggest flavor of many meat dishes in in their sauce - hot wings, BBQ, etc. It's all veggies and herbs and spices

This blog is inspiring. I'm moving from vegetarian to vegan in January and, while I'm not a very good cook (I have to start with a proven recipe), I'm going to make sure all of my vegan meals taste great with the addition of some of my favorite spices.

Thank you so much for the inspiration.

All of that sounds so yummy! Have you ever tried the gardien vegan turkey (they have it a whole foods) or trader joes stuffed vegan turkey? My hubby like the trader joes one but my kids and I prefer the gardien one due to it tasting more like turkey.
It looks like you are staying away from anything processed so perhaps not interested but food for thought emoticon
    Happy Thanksgiving!!
