Moving More and Sleep

Sunday, November 24, 2019

This blog is especially for my Spark friends doing IF or OMAD.

I had only been following this plan a short time when I got an urge to move. I had to get up and DO something that involved movement, so I cleaned. It was a novel experience. Not exactly a burst of energy. My body just wanted to move. I've never heard anyone else talk about that. Oh, I've heard people say they had more energy when they lost weight, and I expect that will happen, too.
I watched a video clip by RAH made during her 30 days of OMAD. She said a strange thing happened after a few days. She suddenly had this need for movement. She had an appointment to meet up with a friend so she decided to walk the three miles. It looked like she might live in NYC where walking is easy because of sidewalks everywhere.

Some people have mentioned they have more energy that sometimes interferes with sleep. I've experienced this, too, so it's good to know the source. It's a good time for thinking, planning, praying, or mentally writing (and hope I remember when I get up). I usually make myself stay in bed because I need to keep my feet up enough to stop edema. The swelling in my legs has decreased.
This video clip reminds us to make sure we are eating enough, stopping when approaching full.

The next video is about 53 minutes long. Intermittent Fasting Success Story with Jim Caldwell has practical and interesting info. Fasting reset his system. Periodic fasting helped get through plateaus. Bear in mind that your eating plan may not look like his. IF and OMAD are not about WHAT you eat. They are about WHEN you eat.

The oddest thing I have noticed so far comes from the weight loss rather than the IF. I feel taller!

As far as the IF, a nice side effect is my thinking seems crisper. I think this is directly related to my brain getting a rest from blood sugar and my body not having to digest as much. It can devote itself to thinking and/or movement instead.

Also, I am changing my relationship with food. I look forward to eating healthy food rather than junk. And, when I eat healthy food, I am really enjoying it. I still have to be very careful about being tempted by snacks.

As far as sleep, I seem to wake up more at night. I do doze back off again. I just looked at my tracker, and for the last 7 days, I had 5 days with close to 8 hours and 2 days of 6.5 hours. All of those days I have close to 5 hours of deep sleep. So, I am happy with that. I wake up more easily in the morning versus arising from the sleep of the Dead feeling groggy.

I have been a steady walker since before IF, but now I am doing longer distances, faster and feeling good. I even do this on fasting days.

At first I approached IF as a means to lose weight. I committed to the approach a month at a time. It has only been 4 mos., but it dawned on me that this could become my permanent way of life because of the positive effects beyond weight loss. I will have my annual physical in December and see what my doc says.
