Have you noticed that all most every celebration involves food? It seems like people cannot get together for any length of time without having something to eat. The other day I was invited to a Women's Conference at a church in town. The name of the conference was "Women's Dessert and Coffee." We signed in for the conference upon arrival and were immediately ushered to the dessert table. Be it a wedding shower, baby shower, gender reveal, birthday party, wedding anniversary, and the list goes on and on, food is always part of the celebration. I'm Southern Baptist and I can tell you that Southern Baptists like to eat. Americans like food. I feel we like food a little too much at times.
We really need to find a way to celebrate so that it does not have to include food. Perhaps we can schedule celebration gatherings at a time in between meals and let people know that food will not be part of the celebration. We can start by saying something like, "coffee, tea, and water will be provided." I know folks get hungry, but the truth of the matter is that most folks will eat, even if they aren't hungry, if there is food available.

So true! I like the idea of coffee, tea and water and let one another's fellowship be the treat! There are so many wonderful people around us that we rarely have adequate time to get to know.
