November 9, 2019 PEACE OF MIND
We sometimes mock or laugh at the beauty contestants when they talk about world peace. We laugh because we know it is not really attainable. In this broken world, there will never be peace. Peace will only come when Jesus returns. However, it is possible to set goals for our lives that will allow us to have personal peace. The choices we make daily can either cause us to be in turmoil or allow us to have peace. We can focus on God and choose peace or we can focus on this world and live in turmoil and despair with no peace. It’s our choice.
Philippians 4:11-13 “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (NLT)
1. Write what you know about God’s peace.
2. List the things you can do to have His peace.
3. Know God wants you to be at peace.
4. Seek ways to have a peace of mind every day knowing God is in control.
Dear Lord, we know Your peace is attainable. We know this world will not give us the peace we need. Help us to stop looking to the world for peace of mind. For real peace, we need to pray, stay in Your word and spend time with You. Guide us today to know more about You and Your perfect peace. We want to choose peace all day – every day by keeping our minds on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Psalm 131:1b-2a “I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp. Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself,” (NLT)
Ecclesiastes 4:6 “It is better to have only a little, with peace of mind, than be busy all the time.” (GN)
John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” (NLT)
Proverbs 19:23 “The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” (NIV)
Peace of mind equals contentment and we can only get that when we keep our minds focused on God.
Proverbs 14:30 “Peace of mind makes the body healthy, but envy is like a cancer.” (TEV)
