November 2, 2019 LOOKING IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES
There are those in this world who believe certain things that are not of God. In fact, they not only believe them but they attempt to persuade others to believe them as well. They say they have visions of angels and spiritual powers from this world. They believe these visions will help them and us. However, they are looking at the wrong things for hope, love and peace when only God can give us these things. Putting our faith in anyone or anything other than God is worthless living.
1 John 4:1-2 “Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God.” (NLT)
1. Write a time someone told you of worldly visions.
2. List ways others try to persuade you to their way of thinking.
3. Know God wants you to stay focused on Him.
4. Remember God is all you need for peace, love and eternal life.
Dear Lord, we pray You will help us to remember to stay in Your word. We want to be able to recognize those who are attempting to persuade us with their visions about worldly things. We know there are many who promise great things if we choose to follow them. However, we know we are to only follow You. Help us to remind others of this as well so we can help them to better know You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We are not to listen to those who say they have visions from the spiritual powers of this world. Only God has the Spirit we need.
Colossians 2:8 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.” (NLT)
We are not to worship angels or anyone of this world. We are to only worship God.
Colossians 2:18 “Do not let anyone disqualify you by making you humiliate yourself and worship angels. Such people enter into visions, which fill them with foolish pride because of their human way of thinking.” (NCV)
Living for God and turning away from those who want to persuade us to worship others gods is what will give us real peace and eternal life.
1 John 2:17 “And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” (NLT)
