On her birthday, Moon wanted to hike in the Siskyou mountains. So we drove up to Mount Ashland to hike a short section of the Pacific crest Trail. It was extremely cold and windy on the mountain, so we were both bundled up in our winter gear.
Mt. Ashland had no snow.
We looked across the valley to Mt. Shasta, across the border in California
I really enjoyed the elegant birthday dinner at a small Italian restaurant located in a old historic home. It was a four course meal, which I do not normally eat. But each course was delicious and healthy. And not too huge. As usual when eating out, I tried to pick the healthiest option for my meal. I did exceed my calorie budget for the day; but an occasional splurge might be worth it!
On our return drive home, we stopped for a short hike to Mill Creek Falls.
But the absolute highlight was our visit to Crater Lake.
The rim Trail was quite icy in parts, so we had to be very cautious and walk at a slower pace than our normal hiking pace. It was an absolutely beautiful day, clear and cold.
Crater Lake is so beautiful. Ken and I did manage to see it when we were in Oregon in 1990. But, as I have said many, many times...………….There really isn't a part of Oregon that I have found to look anything but beautiful. I haven't seen the dessert, but have heard that it has its own appeal. 39 days ago
