Just and Only - Choose your words mindfully

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

You know how you hear people say, envision yourself thin, see the prize, if you see it you can achieve. That one was always difficult for me, because I never saw myself as thin, but I have seen myself healthier and a place I wasn't too long ago. But I get the idea.

I think the same goes with our vocabulary. I am mindfully choosing when I use the words "JUST" and "ONLY". I think they are powerful words that can derail me. By that I mean, I can say to myself that it's just a piece of candy, or it's only a half a pound. That's nonsense. I've always been a champion of own it, you don't need mind tricks, for me if I want something I have it, no guilt, enjoy and that's it. I'm not going to spend the rest of my life eating lettuce leaves. But I oh so need to watch that one equals one, and not the carton, not everyday and that is the struggle. So no "JUST" one, two five etc. If I want plan for it, be mindful. I know that's the goal, if I could do that on an every day basis I wouldn't be where I am now, but writing it down, committing to it, reminding myself it helps.

This is followed by "ONLY", so many times myself included I say I only lost a pound, etc. that's non-sense it's a pound, a flippin pound. You don't hear the great sports greats saying I ONLY won by a point, a hit, whatever they say we won. So no more "ONLY", it's I had a good program today, it's I saw a loss on the scale today, it's I packed my lunch today. Maybe it's , I had 5 instead of 6 today. A step in the right direction, is a step, celebrate that hard work. Maybe your victory is choosing to commit to a healthy life style, maybe you havent worked out the details. So celebrate where you are, acknowledge that was hard work that was scary, but you did. That one single thought has placed you in a positive direction, now one more step.

We make enough not so good choices, by celebrating our wins and looking forward I believe we are fillng ourselves with the much needed positive reinforcement that we need on this journey. So looking forward, choosing my words and actions carefully. Celebrating the wins, and learning from the struggle.
