Hubby had a 7:30 am hospital test appointment today! I knew it would be a hard thing to do.
I had never been to that hospital. I kinda knew I'd have trouble finding the exact place to go in. I started to park in the lot and took a ticket. Realized that was not going to work with him in a motorized wheelchair. Backed up and went to the valet parking. Much better!
I had just driven around the whole complex and ended up in a HUGE parking area behind the hospital! No good. Finally found the right entrance. The main entrance was closed for a big renovation!
No wonder I had problems.
The place to sign in was hidden!!!! -and not well signed either! It was around a corner! Due to the rearrangement of the whole hospital.
Then, the x-ray department was through a bunch of hallways and turns and up one floor! MaMa Mia! Poor hubby ! He was quite mixed up.
The test got done. But... the sling under his body is not comparable with the lifts that the hospitals have!!!! How do you lift a 240 lb sitting person to put a different sling under him!
I told them another hospital used a "sit to stand" lift just to get his weight off the chair so they could put the proper sling under him. Then switch lift machines! Quite a tough procedure!
He had the choking, swallowing test. He has had it before but who am I to complain! They are protecting themselves in case he chokes in their care. Sigh,
The biggest problem to me was the straps in my wheelchair van. They are complicated at best but I was misshing a short strap.
(Found it later!) And the chair was behaving badly so hubby was yelling at me.
It is very difficult to back the chair out of the van. The back chair wheels are not made for that. They wiggle around and so the chair won't go straight back. I have to keep kicking the rear wheels so they line up properly.
Very dangerous because he could fall off the ramp--chair and all!
When I got home I just took a nap!!! No more work for today. I was pooped out! chris
If... I had a medical van take him, I'd have to pay $100 !
I did that once only. He will get Medicaid. So some time I think Medicaid will pay for transport. Whew!
So right now I am still transporting him!
