Grace's new beginnings

So my amazing Gracie Girl, we hauled out for *her* first official dressage lesson. I was so concerned that she was going to be freaked out by the windmills, the other horses, the huge barn/arena/mirrors/viewing windows and overall new surrounds. I was worried that I was bringing in my little trail pony with my western saddle & my jeans to such a highend barn....

And guess what---- none of those worries were valid. She did AHHHH-MAZ-ING. So excellent. She got of the trailer to half a dozen huge warmbloods trotting around, snorting in their paddocks and just looked at them, like "what's the big deal, I'm the new girl, if anyone should be wound up it should be me." She could care less. I tied her to the trailer, groomed her, tacked her up and took her into the huge facility. She did not care one bit. I think that this point she and I have a bond, and that it is stronger now than it has ever been, so she just quickly trusts me. I walked her around the arena, she did not care about any of it, not even the mirrors. She was an angel. I spoke with my instructor, she commented on Grace's kindness in her eyes and what a willing horse she is, and a 'goer'. We had a great lesson, I will spare you the details, though I wanted to work on Grace's topline and core strength as I believe she is over using her hamstrings, and she was. We learned some really neat new exercises to ride, I couldn't wait to get home and write them all down. It was so worth the drive and $$ to go.

Am doing great at staying under my calorie limit, though night time chocolate is still stalking me. The battle continues. My clothes are much looser even today and finally the scale agrees and is back down around 215, so I am about at my goal on average losing (on average) in 17 days 3 pounds- or about .17 per day vs the .2 per day I had hoped for. I'm still encouraged as the scale is agreeing with how I feel and how the clothes fit.

It felt great to ride dressage again yesterday, and I am so looking forward to strengthening Grace & myself- I do best when working towards a goal, and I am seeing the fruits of having a goal now. I teach a 4H Photography project and have for the past year. Like most volunteering, I got roped into literally 4x more than what I volunteered for and am pulling back, stepping away from that role in 2020. It is my hope that 2020 will be shining a light on my health and my horses- and of course my larger priority is always my relationship with God and my relationship with my husband and family. Horses and health fall in behind that.

The frost was on the flowers this morning, and I really want to break away extra early some morning soon with my camera to capture some of this seasonal beauty before it is all gone.

I am loosely considering training for a half or full marathon. The longest distance I've ran is an 8k, though at some point it becomes about the time on your feet and the pace you are comfortable with. We shall see

Today we took an unexpected turn and saw this little guy on the wrong side of the fence, met the owner & I will be photographing his herd soon, just for my own project. Lovely Murray Grey cattle. Yes, we got him off the road and back home.

Wish me luck in staying on track & in staying committed to 2020 being the year to shine a healthy light on my life emoticon I've volunteered much over my lifetime, it is time for a year of some volunteering; though more me time.
