More Albanian Wedding Observations

Sunday, October 20, 2019

The basic premise: my all American niece married an all American seeming, but actually an Albanian born but has become an American husband , and all his relatives (and he has a LOT) have come to celebrate with us..... some came all the way from Albania... some came from various pockets of Albania in the US...

and ALL of them like to dance traditional Albanian dances, ...... and I have never seen so MANY men who love to dance these dances which involve a lot of walking sideways and kicking with quite a bit of hopping thrown in... it is quite manly, actually!

There was a LOT of dancing traditional Albanian dancing at the rehearsal dinner hosted by the groom’s parents at a local restaurant owned apparently by a family of Albanians, and I thought it was cool when even the waitstaff joined in on one of the dances...

None of the waitstaff from the wedding reception joined in on the dancing tonight, but the American DJ good naturedly yielded the microphone to the Albanian musicians for another round of the wonderful dancing we did last night.... the rest of the night was regular party music, but I’ll never forget my short sojourn with the band of merry Albanians this weekend.

Also, I did NOT eat any Baklava tonight... I am officially “sweeted out”...
