Feels like forever, sometimes

You know those friends you have, who it just feels like you've known forever, but then when you stop and talk about it, you've only known them for a couple of years. It doesn't even have to be close friends, people you spend a lot of time with, or have shared really meaningful moments with. Even some of your casual acquaintances, if they happen to occupy a particular niche in your life, might feel like someone you have known for a lot longer than what reality says.
Went to play trivia Wednesday night (we won both games, and ate and drank for free that night!) and I hit the restroom before leaving. On the way out, I spotted one such acquaintance sitting at the bar, a fellow fan of the AFC Ann Arbor soccer team, a guy who is generally a huge soccer fan, and someone who through his enthusiasm, is a big presence at games. We spent a few minutes chatting, commiserating on our shared English football rooting interest's travails this season. And while talking, I mentioned that it was only last year, 2018, that I started hanging out with the hardcore fans at AFC Ann Arbor games. He seemed surprised by that, thinking that I'd started cheering and singing with those guys prior to that.
For whatever reason, stuff like that amuses me greatly. So I thought I'd share.
