While I was doing one of my clinical visits in a local nursing home, I had a conversation with a man whom I had only spoken a few words. When i asked him if there is anything that he wanted to discuss, he said, "Chaplain, can I tell you about something I saw the other night."
He then related a story that Jesus had met him and then taken him to the gate of heaven. The man was told that he could not enter. He explained to Jesus that he had been a good person, and been in church for most of his life.
All Jesus would say to him, is that he could not enter heaven.
After telling me this, the man asked me, Chaplain what does that mean?
I then let him know that I would share with him what i believed, and that I was a Baptist pastor. After granting me permission, I shared with him briefly about how salvation is laid out in the Bible, and asked him what he thought.
He told me that he had never heard that before. This ended with him wanting to pray to God and place his trust in Jesus.
