October 10, 2019 FOOLISH THINKING

Fools are people who act unwisely or imprudently. Their irresponsible actions reveal their foolish thoughts to others. We see many people do foolish things. A foolish person as defined in the Bible is one who is destitute of reason or lacks common powers of understanding. This comes from wrong thinking and staying out of God’s word. We can easily be labeled as fools the more we stay away from God. We can easily allow our minds to become filled with foolish thoughts. We need to intentionally stay in God’s word and pray for wisdom so we stay away from foolish thinking.

Romans 1:28 “Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.” (NLT)

1. Write what you do to remember God’s word.
2. List the ways you follow God’s direction rather than your own.
3. Know how easy it is to start thinking foolishly.
4. Remember to stay in God’s word and pray for wisdom every day.

Dear Lord, so many times we get distracted from You and Your word. We get sidetracked into thinking about ourselves or this world. Help us today to remember You and read Your word so we are filling our minds with Your wisdom and Your instruction. We don’t want to get pulled into the ways of the world. We want to be humble, to stay in Your will and to follow and obey only You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Fools are often revealed by their actions and words that show they are acting only for themselves.

Proverbs 13:16 "Wise people think before they act; fools don’t—and even brag about their foolishness." (NLT)

Our thoughts sometimes focus on us and what we deserve but we need to remember to be humble and stop having foolish and selfish thoughts.

Galatians 6:3 “If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.” (NLT)

Proverbs 12:15 “Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.” (NLT)

Proverbs 5:23 “[People] get lost and die because of their foolishness and lack of self-control” (CEV)
