This weekend, the High Desert Museum featured a harvest festival at the replica pioneer farm. I enjoyed visiting, and watching the re-enactors educating the public.
The little pioneer girl enlisted other children to dig up the potatoes in her garden.
The farm wife was showing the little girl how to churn butter.
The older farmer was pressing cider
And the blacksmith was making hinges.
The kids were enthralled watching and helping out. However, most of them had a hard time swallowing the samples of pickled eggs!
Of course I also enjoyed visiting my favorite exhibits, like the walk through Oregon history
And the animals and landscape
Today, I returned to hike at Sparks lake with my friend Moon. This is the same trail that I fell on a month ago; this time I managed to stay upright for the entire hike! Moon had never hiked here before.
It was a warm day today, and the fresh snow on the mountain tops had started to melt.
You can probably tell from the photos that Moon loved the hike. She just lit up with smiles. After work, she invited me to her home for yoga and home cooked Chinese food, very healthy and tasty.

One of my favorite books is one that tells the history of Astoria. I loved the pictures and the fact that the kids could actually get involved in what each person was doing instead of just observing.
You look so healthy and happy, Alison. Good for YOU!!! Was Moon gone for a while? It seems like I recall you mentioning the fact that you would miss her. 59 days ago

Can you imagine living like those people did in the past? And No AC! UGH! I like that kind of visits too. Glad you enjoyed! And that hike-good that you stayed upright the whole time! No more of that falling now! Accidents do happen, but be careful! Last week my hubby took a fall....can you believe it? Pushing an L type cart too quickly, it hit an edge of a wall, swung around and knocked him off his feet. lost balance. Down he went and his side (ribs) hit the edge of the cart. He is better...thank goodness ....nothing broken. But, sore and bruised here and there. I am wanting him to go to the chiropractor...he says no need. Have a good week! Happy Hiking!

wow the photos are awesome I just love reenactments of the past ! We have them a lot where I live here in Pennsylvania. They do the civil war ones as well just as if they were on a battle field. So happy you had an upright hike . Was it cold there with the snow on the back mountain? Denver is to have a snow fall as well I think on Thursday. Our leaves are turning a beautiful array of golden colors. Thank you for sharing .have a great rest of the week ! Judy
