River hikes

Friday, October 04, 2019

I’ve been enjoying hiking along the river lately. Here are a few photos from recent hikes with my friends.

The Cascade Mountains have fresh snow.

The river in all of these photos is the Deshutes River’.

On the health and fitness front, my lip is almost healed. I am eating normal foods again. I am still very happy doing the WW program. I tried a new exercise class with my friend Martina that combines aerobics with motivational affirmation.

I have set a short term goal for myself to lose 5 pounds a month over the next three months. For me, this is ambitious goal, I hope it will keep me on track! I have also started wearing my fitness tracker again, and I want to average 10,000 steps a day. I particularly appreciate the fitness tracker reminding me to get up and move. I know I can get lost reading a book, playing a guitar, or painting a watercolor, or just plain watching a great television show (I loved Ken Burn’s “Country”) — Then I get caught up and I don’t realize how sedentary I have been.

the photos are beautiful. My husband & I almost drowned in our huge river. Our boat capsize it was awful the rescue team had to come help us. My body got caught in the turbulent current I was giving up I could not fight any more. I had thought Gary got chopped by the motor he was inches away from it. he somehow grabbed my butt under water & pushed my straight up by that time our boat was laying with the bottom up & I flew up like a dolphin & landed spread eagle on the boat. That was years ago this happened. We are seasoned boaters & we made the big mistake of not putting our life vest on.We never now go without them !! I am starting back Tuesday with my TOPS program for weight loss I need to also start wearing my fitbit. I got awful lazy as of late with my back issues. I need to start getting active again Thanks for the encouragement!! Have a lovely weekend

No matter what the season is, your pictures are amazingly beautiful...…………...And, I can certainly see your weight loss...…… look emoticon

I agree about sitting too much too...…………….I have been so involved with my Mom lately and all of the activity takes place in her apartment or a Dr.'s office or on the computer. Lots of tension and not enough physical activity to counter it.

great pictures, Alison. My goal is similar, 3-5 lbs./month for 3 months.

I got a new Fitbit, and just wearing it makes me move more.

I like to think I am pretty active but like you I sometimes get involved in something and realize I’ve been sitting for 2-3 hours!
