A Potpourri of Thought Bubbles

Hey there! Warning: this blog entry is all over the place, but I hope you enjoy it and get some value from it!

What’s new with me? I’m hoping to find out if I got a job I interviewed for in Florida. News on that should come next week.

I’m down with a mother loving cold that just sucks! The sinus pressure is tremendous and now my eyes won’t stop watering. I’m a horrible sicky!

In the back of my mind, I feel like a fraud for not managing the consistency I always talk about. I’m consistently inconsistent and that’s no joke. Why are the good habits so much work? They aren’t habits at all really. Habits are habits because we’re able to perform them without effort. I know, I know...easy is earned. I’m just taking a moment to let the obstinate child out. I feel like there’s more earning than easy going on. But what else is true? It’s been forever since I worked up a sweat, had a step streak...Reality check: I’m not doing the work. That’s why it ain’t easy!

Small, meaningful, impactful actions, Brenda. Do those. And do them again. And again.

Okay, child rant and pep talk over. What else is going on? I’ve been reading a lot when my eyes aren’t glazed over scanning for houses on Zillow! I’m still finishing the Third Door by Alex Banayan, Atomic Habits by James Clear. I also bought but haven’t started Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris and Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo.

I’m reading the Artist’s Way. I may actually finish this one! I’m already benefiting from the Morning Pages practice: three pages of free writing each morning. In the book, there’s a section on Action that I really quite like. She draws a connection between your belief that you can do something and doors that open for you. Whether you believe this is luck, synchronicity, serendipity, or the hand of God, I really like the notion that the universe conspires WITH you when you commit to and believe in a thing. Consider this the next time you say “The strangest thing happened...”

I loved this quote from Louis Pasteur: “Did you ever observe to whom the accidents happen? Chance favors only the prepared mind.”

Dare to dream, my friends. And when those doors open, take the chance. You are worth it. Shake hands with the worry and fear and say, “I’m doing it anyway.” We only regret the chances we didn’t take.

Life is about relationships. How well you manage them is up to you. It’s so easy for things to go sideways if you aren’t intentional about managing misunderstanding. I really liked these tips from my transformation coach because it’s something I’m trying to improve with my relationship. One of my affirmations is to listen for understanding, not to win.

1. Make it a priority to understand where the other person is coming from.
2. Choose a perspective of getting it right together instead of being right on your own.
3. Own where you could have done things differently or better. It always takes two!
4. Outside of conflict (and also in conflict) practice becoming expert in differentiating between what actually happened and how you feel about what happened.

Good stuff, right?!

Thanks for following, if you read this far. I wish you all a fabulous, productive, restful, creative weekend full of love and delight. If that wasn’t already part of your plan, why not?
