So I finally got myself a fitbit! I was super hesitant because, well, it's some money.. but also for privacy and security matters. I'm not a 100% down with having a tracking device strapped to my body, although I also have my phone with me at all times *sigh* So I caved. I try to see it as a gift/tool to help me reach my goals. My health and weight loss are a top priority for me right now and for the year to come, so I think it's worth it.

So far I like it, i'm not a watch wearer so it's a little strange. It's a cute watch, I chose the gray/rose gold one. I notice that the step counts seems quite off, it adds steps if I just move my arm around. I was still in bed this morning and I had 25 steps on the count. I'm a little disappointed in that but maybe it's the kind of device that "gets to know you" and adjust it's metrics on a bigger database. I really like to get metrics on myself, lol, my heart beat and the sleep cycles!! Yeah! So anyway, we'll see. I have 30 days to return it if I decide it's not for me.

Something weird, when I connected the device with SparkPeople, it auto-joined me to the group "Fitbit users unite!" ... hm. Hellooo I guess :) I'm happy to get it before the 5% challenge starts, too. This Saturday!

I've had various Fitbits since they came out now. I really like seeing how active I really am. I love seeing how I sleep too. Plus it's fun to do challenges. Some of us Firecrackers do weekly challenges. Let us know if you ever want to join in. I feel like the challenges get me moving more(usually:-)

I have had a FitBit for over 5 years and I love it. Yes, it does count some arm movement, but not enough to be a significant percentage of your steps if you're getting several thousand steps a day. If you're worried about it, you can always stick it in a pocket, but it can't monitor heart-rate or sleep from there.

Do I believe everything my FitBit says, absolutely not. But I do use it to track progress week to week and see where I have improved or not. If not then I know I need to step it up or change a goal or two. I have found that my step count does correspond with that of my old pedometer which I wore at my hip so all is not lost.
