Waiting

Sunday, September 29, 2019

In April, we had dinner with our son, daughter and DIL. I mentioned it might be an idea to spend our early October 40th wedding anniversary in Ishigakijima, our favorite holiday place.

DH: Okinawa is not a great idea in typhoon season!
Son and DIL gave each other funny looks.

DIL: What date is it?
Me: 6 October.
DIL: Well, actually we’re expecting a baby on 4 October.

Twelve years ago after DH had his first stroke and was diagnosed with diabetes, a good friend who works in the medical field but who is a little lacking in tact, said, “You’ll have to feed him properly or he won’t get to see his grandchildren.” I was alarmed, but now I wouldn’t give it a second thought. I’ve got a handle on the diet thing, touch wood, and our grandson will soon appear. On top of that, we’re older than my two great-grandmothers were when I was born!

Five years ago, I went to England and met my oldest friend going back to schooldays. They’d recently had their 40th and DH had recently been in the ICU several times. I thought, “I can’t see us making it to our 40th.” But here we are and he’s in great condition!

So......building up to two celebrations around the end of the week!

    SO thrilling!!

We celebrated our 40th this year too, in June -- but still no grandbabies and none on the horizon either.

You've got double reasons to feel happy and blessed.

So that's how you found out you were going to be grandparents? It must have been such a thrill! And now, here you are waiting for a wondrous event, and next time you go to Ishigakijima, it might be with the little cutie in tow!

I'm so touched by your and your husband's story, how you've taken such good care of him over the years, and how he's persevered so that you can both see your grandchild and celebrate your 40th anniversary in a few days. What a happy time in your family! Keep us posted! Can't wait to hear!

    Fantastic!
I look back and realise i’m In better shape than my mum at the same age, but then she had greater hardships to endure in her teens... I may get to be a grandmother, but unlikely to ever be a great grandmother...
