Monthly Fitness Minutes
Sunday, September 29, 2019
This month is the first time that I have reached 2500 fitness minutes. Well at least it's the first month that I have ever tracked them. The most I had done before was only 1500 minutes.
In late 2011, my mom's death was caused from a blood clot...and while I don't know everything about blood clots, I will say that I always thought you got them from not moving enough. As my mom got older, she became more of a couch potato instead of being active like I remember her being when I was a little kid. Unfortunately I have spent alot of months of my life also being a couch potato and that's a habit I am trying to break.
I remember when we lived in one location while I was in 1st through 3rd grade..my mom would make me and my 2 younger brothers walk with her to the little country store and post office...4 miles down the road one-way (so 8 miles total). Neighbors thought she was crazy but we did it a few times every week while there was no snow on the ground. Wish I could remember all the songs and stories she would tell to keep 3 small kids motivated enough to keep going.
Now I wish that I still had that motivation to walk 8 miles down a road...well there are some interesting sand dunes just 2 miles down the road from where I live and I always seem to think that's to far to walk. When in reality it would only be half of what my mother made me do before.
Yes I am alot older now and kids might have more stamina and more energy then old people. But hopefully my muscles have enough memory and determination to work up to long walks again.
According to my Fitbit, there have been days where I have actually done a few miles in a day, but walking around home and work just doesn't feel like a few miles. Maybe because it's not done all at once. Its dragged out and cumulative throughout the whole day. But there is no rule/law saying that fitness has to be done all together in a one-two hour block of time. I am trying to be consistent with small blocks of time several times a day. That way I don't get overwhelmed and give up.
The weather is cooling down here, it's predicted to be under 100 degrees this whole week. I also have tomorrow and Tuesday off work, so I want to just see how far I can go then. A walk to the sand dunes and back would surely add some fitness minutes on sparkpeople.
