Forgot how to play

Don't play any pickleball in a couple of weeks, and totally forget how to play.
Ok, that's not true, but I did feel like I was struggling today. Partly due to the time away from the court, partly due to switching between the Franklin balls that we've largely used outdoors all summer, and the Dura brand balls that a couple people brought along to use to try and get ready for an upcoming tournament that will use that ball.
Won about half the games I played today, but the ones I lost, my partner and I (we switch partners almost every game) got crushed in a number of them, with at least three 11-2 losses. Not typical. The person who arranged this particular game took me aside at one point and said that I shouldn't feel pressured to come to this because I'm the best player in the group, and it always catches me by surprise when someone says this, because I feel like I fit comfortably in this set of players, rather than standing out. It's a good feeling to hear something like that, but I also feel like there's a big gap to the next group of players, where I'd lose quite a bit if I were to try and get into that group. Guess there's an argument here to try and challenge myself rather than sticking with a group that just feels comfortable to play against. I'll have to think about that.
