Fall 5% Challenge: Triggers & Red Light Foods

Saturday, September 21, 2019

List Trigger situations, where you are, who you are with and foods (red light) that trigger your overconsumption of calories.

My triggers are – Emotional Eating: stressful situations, especially with my blood relatives. Being around my favorite foods, having them out where I can see them and am constantly tempted by them.

Plan - I'm going to try to do what I used to do years ago and turn to working out as my emotional relief, I'm also in therapy. Plus, I'm doing things I enjoy that completely take my mind off stressful things. I'm learning to sew and that is like an escape for me, when I'm sewing, the world narrows down to the hum of the machine and what I'm creating. I also crochet, love to read, and am working on cleaning/decluttering the house by redoing my daily routine.

My positive behaviors – If I really put my mind to something, I can do it. I have proven it to myself over and over, I just have to really make up my mind. Once I get into working out, and get over my initial aches and pains at starting, I love it, it energizes me. I love veggies. Like I will literally get sick if I go more than a few days without veggies. I was that weird child that raided the vegetable bin and the garden instead of the cookie jar. Momma raised me right, LOL. I love my family, and I want to not only show myself that I can do this, but show my kids that they can do anything they put their minds to, so this is really important to me.

Have you developed habits to help you cope with your triggers? I'm working on it. My therapist is also going to help me come up with things to do when I see him in a few days.

What did you learn from doing this assignment? That I have a lot of tools already, I just need to do them

Anything else to add? Emotional eating can be hard to stop, but if you recognize the signs, drink some water before you eat and develop a solid plan, it can be beaten!
