National Sewing Month
Saturday, September 21, 2019
This is our assignment for the Aspire and Inspire sparkteam: September is National Sewing Month, a time to indulge your passion for sewing and the perfect opportunity to introduce yourself to the craft if you’ve never tried it before. Do you sew? If so, share the kind of sewing you do and what projects you may be working on now. If you don't sew, you may want to share memories you have of someone you know who likes to sew from your past or the present.
It's funny that this topic came up this month, because I just recently signed up for a beginning quilting class at Hobby Lobby. Wednesday was the first class meeting. The teacher gave out a long supply list, then she went through the store and showed all the things she recommended. That was all we did that night, and next week we will actually start working on a quilt (a small lap quilt). I went back and bought most of the supplies the next day. Here is a picture of the fabrics I chose. She said to get three coordinating fabrics in a light color, a medium color, and a dark color.
I haven’t used a sewing machine in years, so this week I’m going to have to get it out and re-learn how to use it. In the past I have only made a few simple things like a tablecloth and napkins. The teacher told me, though, that I should be able to remember how to use the machine again with a little practice.
I’m really looking forward to this class. I think quilts are beautiful.
