Day 2 Tame Your Sweet Tooth

I decided to repeat the 21 Day Tame Your Sweet Tooth Challenge. I did it a few years ago and had success. I remember well how surprised I was that the cravings literally fell away once I had one successful day and then another. All I have to do is make that first choice to abstain or make a healthy swap. It all starts with just one choice!

The Day 1 Challenge is a baseline survey about sweets. My results message was that my sweets cravings were out of control. Lol, okay, let’s not be dramatic! I’m signing up for this challenge, so it’s not completely out of control!

The Day 2 Challenge is to journal about my cravings. I love this exercise. I need to practice this more. We all know our eating habits are often tied to emotions, right? Good, bad, or wrong, it’s true for most people. So, it goes to reason that when you track your food, taking note of what you were thinking and feeling can be helpful to pinpoint the problem.

Without journaling, I can pinpoint my danger zones.
1. Eating carbs spikes my sugar cravings.
2. My evening routine includes dessert.

Yeah, that’s about it. If I eat low carb, the cravings are diminished. If I swap the dessert with a piece of fruit or an activity, I could get on the other side of this. The only hurdle is me and my childlike obstinence. I recently heard about a Ted Talk on sugar and how it’s not a treat. I’m going to go track that down. I do know sugar promotes an environment where cancer can thrive. If nothing else, this should be an easy deterrent. But somehow, I continue to get in my own way. Strike that. In the past, I’ve gotten in my own way. Today, I choose to crowd out the less desirable habit by adding more desirable ones, starting with what goes in my grocery cart!

    I love your thoughts on this subject. I just have a question...does sugar cravings mean sweet things or putting sugar in tea or coffee? I am not big on sweet desserts but I do like sugar in tea or on some cereals. Also, what about natural sugars you get from food? Do you cut those out too? This intrigues me. TIA
