Power Words Apparel Focus Group

Hello SparkPeople members!

I’m writing to ask your help with a fun project: a friend of mine who is also a SparkPeople company advisor is starting a new apparel company named Power Words Apparel.

Similar to SparkPeople, this company has an authentic history and mission. It all started when the founder Robert Jones was working to motivate his son on making it through some of the challenges of college and this sparked the idea for an apparel company that shares inspirational messages. This is now a family affair with Robert, his wife Cleo, and their son Austin all involved

Below is a photo of me wearing a Power Words Apparel shirt. As you know, I have much to be grateful for :).

I’m also getting a haircut tomorrow!

I told my friend Robert that I would share Power Words Apparel with a group of SparkPeople members to see if anyone is interested in taking a look and essentially serving as a focus group that provides feedback on the site and products.

If you are interested in participating, can you just let us know your thoughts on the company’s:

1. Mission
2. Products -- any favorites stick out to you?
3. Pricing
4. Website
5. Any other thoughts or comments you have?

You can simply post your answers to these questions in the comments section below. Or, if you’d prefer not to share publicly, just send me a SparkMail with your answers.

If there are some great responses, I might pick one and send the winner a sample T-shirt.

Here are links to the site:
Home page: powerwordsapparel.com
Our story: powerwordsapparel.com/pages/about-us

If something sticks out to you, the site is active, this is how I ordered my shirt above.

Thanks a bunch for your help, I really appreciate it! Robert has been very helpful to SparkPeople, so I’m happy to re-pay the favor to him.

Chris/SparkGuy

    What a great idea.
    1. Mission I like the mission statement.
    2. Products -- any favorites stick out to you? Not really. I like most t shirts.
    3. Pricing - I feel the pricing is a bit high. Do they donate any proceeds to any organizations? ASPCA, Feed the Children...etc.
    4. Website - the website was easy enough to get around.
    5. Any other thoughts or comments you have? I love the idea of positive thinking apparel. Several of the shirts were of interest. I would like to see some in female colors like pink, yellow, and purple.

    Thanks for keep us updated.

*Great story, mission and start! I am happy to see right away that you are interested in sponsoring scholarships for students and helping with non-profits. Soon you can post those gifts/groups on the website to share with others who may be so inspired and to hold you accountable. Maybe decide now on the percentage given from each order or the first groups to whom you will donate.
*The photos look like they have a pink wash/overlay. I would prefer clearer photos. I do appreciate that you are showing diversity, but don’t feel the need to go overboard, as that just continues to call out our differences instead of our similarities.
    *Add apostrophes. Women’s – Men’s – Children’s
*Your FAQs are great. I did not, however, see a sizing chart for children.
*I think the words are great, and there is a variety...something for everyone interested in health and sports and living life.
*I also think that you may want to write somewhere on the first page that there are various colors for some but not all items. At first, I just saw black and white on the women’s page, but you do have other colors. If you had all colors on the cover page, that would be distracting. People need to see that you do have different colors though because not everyone looks and clicks. Mugs need different colors too.
*Eventually, maybe get into different shirts – halters, v neck, hoodies, etc. and even bags?

Thanks for the opportunity. I would love a t-shirt (size L). (Please and thanks!) I know that someone commented that this was supporting one business. If they were part of advising SP, I am okay with this, but I also sent you a post asking about getting more active as a coach and have heard nothing back. Did you see it?

2.living in the northland hoodie sweatshirts
    3.pricing was great
    4.website was very basic
    5. They talked about faith, maybe a very strong Bible verse or simple quote would be nice.
Actual ladies sizing and petites- not everyone is tall!

    Hi
I checked out the t-shirts. Some thoughts:
    1. Long sleeve options would be great.
    2. Streamline presentation. I looked at the women's' shirts. Forty-six pages is a lot to go through. Could the shirts be presented by content/slogan and then list the colors the shirt is available in.
    3. On the women's page, women are not wearing the shirts.
    4. The photograph on the home page is quite large. I had to really look for the name of the company. The company name did not pop out at me.

I love the idea behind the shirts and the optimism it generates for the wearer and reader! Hope this
    helps!

Good luck to your friend with his power word business and love that he is helping his son with his education through the profits. Thanks for sharing. I do have many t-shirts for working out at my rec center and prefer the plain ones with no logo's. However they are nice for many younger people I agree. I do have a few from my grandkids schools with the school name, which i wear for them to see me with....(-:
Any POSITIVE words are great and inspiring when I see them on people or inspirational quotes.
Glad you are doing so well with your health now and keeping us informed of any new ideas to help us with our healthy way of living .

I liked the clothes! Wish I could view ALL, instead of having to go through 46 pages of products. Just not enough time! Also I would love LONG sleeves. I hike in the sun & only wear them that way.

    Glad you are doing GREAT!!!!!

About me: Yesterday I took DH in for his annual checkup. We love his doctor. He let's me come in & learn, too! He is where I found SP. Well, he could tell I had added weight & DH did too. I won't discuss DH situation here, not my business to share! But he said to me, that IF I don't let the extra weight go, I will be headed for MUCH more pain, as far as my joints go. Kinda, lose it or lose your life! emoticon THAT WAS A HUGE WAKE UP CALL FOR ME!!!! emoticon YIKES!!!!

So today I pulled out my SP goal list, Photos of me AT goal & measured myself for the first time in 11 months! My lunch today was a plate of yummy raw veggies & a teaspoon of Peanut Butter. Breakfast was oatmeal & a few nuts. I've eaten 600 cals so far today, but they are VERY energizing foods. When I go to eat unconsciously, it will be with a plate of raw veggies. I have planned the rest of the meals & snacks for the next couple days. I've joined a 22 day food challenge, to help me focus on REAL foods, not empty calories. I'm doing this, because my life depends upon it! THX for YOUR support, I couldn't do it with out you! emoticon

    1. Mission- I love these positive sayings is such a negative world!!
    2. Products -- any favorites stick out to you? None - I did look at the sweatshirts and saw other colors available but it was missing the girly - pinks and purples??
    3. Pricing - OK
    4. Website - A lot of clicking around to find an item I would consider to buy.
    5. Any other thoughts or comments you have? Can a woman model for the woman attire?? I saw male models for the woman sweatshirts.

Thank you for sharing this new company with us.

Really tedious having to page through so many pages to look at slogans. Need more product per page and also filters in each category for product type.

Shipping type and costs aren't listed.

No resposiblility for seeing the product gets to purchaser - does this mean "take the money and run"?

Just from looking at your tee shirt, I did not want to explore further. A everyday tee shirt with common sayings. Nothing new or creative. Keep the day job. Of course spark people will tell you it is great for your approval but they won’t buy it which will tell you the truth.

Found it tedious to work thru catalog pages. I liked that I could sort A-Z, but prefer other websites that offer more items per page or even a "see all" that I can just scroll down through rather than having to load 40+ individual pages with only 12 items each.

I find there is not enough variety in styles and colours. I checked out the tank tops, they only had racerback which I don't like, and I'm too old to wear. The website would be a lot easier to follow if there were a few basic T-shirts, and a drop down list of slogans you could have printed on them. In the womens hoodie section the only hoodies had young boys modelling them.

    The idea is great though.

    1. Mission - Great Mission Statement! Love the company story.

    2. Products -- any favorites stick out to you? In particular, short- & long-sleeve t-shirts, hoodies & sweatshirts: Luke 10:19, Unfinished Work, Victory Awaits, Mission in Progress, Grateful, Hard Knocks Training.

    3. Pricing - Is comparable to other items of apparel that I have purchased in stores & online.

    4. Website - Is there a way to put the items in categories? I was searching thru the Women's section & it was 46 pages. It would probably be too arduous to have them arranged by the writing on the item, but it would probably work to have the t-shirts, tanks, long-sleeve t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, etc., in their own individual categories to make searches faster. I would like to be able to view more than 12 items at a time. Some websites have a pull-down so that you can choose to view more items on a page, e.g. 25, 50, 75, etc.

    5. Any other thoughts or comments you have? I love, love, love the concept. I won't even watch the news anymore because the media seems to thrive on negativity. We could all certainly use some positivity in our daily lives & I would be proud to spread some by wearing this apparel.

Started to send a comment, and one thought led to another, and I've almost re-written "war and peace", so I'll send it to you in SparkMail but I may also just send it to Robert from the link on his website.

I really really really want one that says Proverbs 31:17 (NKJV is preferred but some other versions also speak to me.)...

Purples... blues.... better sorting, some of those T-shirt models have 46 pages, so needs to be a bit faster way to navigate. Thankfully the Search feature works pretty well, except when searching for specific models by sizes available.

I agree that the logo sometimes overpowers the motivating graphic or word. Maybe needs to be a standard size ratio/proportion across all the shirts and maybe always in a specific location like lower left or lower right or on the sleeve (except for sleeveless tank models, hats, etc, of course, in which case, punt back to the specific size in a specific location relative to the rest of the logo/graphic/power word.).

I like the mugs, hats. I prefer the t-shirts and caps with just the PWA graphic. The t-shirts with the other slogans and the PWA logo look out of place. Thanks for sharing. Good Luck!

Really like that the larger shirts are not more (or at least the ones I looked at) since when I was a 3X I HATED having 5 to 10 more! I already felt a deep shame being that big. Now in a size M I'd happily pay a bit more so that those as in on this site, who are larger do not have pay extra.

Love the positive messages and hope the long sleeve shirts have many more choices.

The problem I come across is that I am a 5x and need a Long....when I ask if they have a 5XL...they usually respond with 'We have a 5x' and it is my gamble where if I purchase, I always have my belly sticking out of the bottom. I am not sexy enough to wear a belly shirt.

    So,...any recommendations?

Interesting story, Chris. One of the power words/phrases I see so popular in the culture around here is STORY. As in tell your story, ask me my story, and various versions of story telling, story teller, etc .

When I click on Women or Men catalog sections, all I see are unisex tee shirts (which are really men's sizing). I don't wear unisex tee shirts - too baggy at the waist & shoulders & too tight on the hips & bust. So... If you really aren't going to have women's cut shirts, just put all the adult shirts together. Less apparent sexism/gender bias that way, too :)

Thank you for sharing this site with us.
I don't wear t-shirts with logos or sayings, just not my style. I like the idea the company has and I feel it will go over big with the younger crowd, which I'm sure it is focused on.
You are a great friend to help promote their business and I wish them success.

Some of these I flat-out don't understand. "Life Is Hurdle, Keep Jumping" is just poor English. As is, "Success Only Option." And what on earth is "Pardon Swag?" "Started On Bottom" needs to be changed to "Started at the Bottom."

Some of these are really great, and I love the concept. I think there are simply too many options. 19 pages of women's product? A lot of these could be thinned out, leaving you just the punchiest slogans, instead of scrolling through pages and pages of duds. The unisex shirts are much, much stronger, but I only see those when I select "men's."

I could see this being popular among high school and college athletes/coaches.

While I like the idea, some of the shirts use negative words..."Ready for Battle" I expect the person wearing this shirt to tend to be negative, with shields up and non-cooperative. "GRIND" unless used in a phrase like "Keep your nose to the grindstone", grind in general is more widely used in recent years for sexual dance moves and un-welcomed guys after girls, so that should be limited as well even if they mean it as daily grind of hard work without surrounding reference words it sounds more negative than positive.
I do love the Soar, Grateful, Rise + Thrive, Skill + Will...
How about suggesting adding "All Humans, Love ALL", Give + Get - Respect
