My 9/11 Momentos from Ground Zero
Wednesday, September 11, 2019
In November of 2001, my husband and I went to Ground Zero as part of a feeding team with Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief. It was the absolute most rewarding experience of my life. Yes, the rubble was still smoldering. Yes, there were tons of tears. Yes, there military jets overhead. Yes, there were workers covered in ash and dirt.
However, there was the beauty of the Statue of Liberty late one night from the ferry ride and the stunning site of all the American Flags flying in the light of the spotlights before our shift was over at night. Yes, there were the policemen, firemen, and workers at the site who were concerned about our safety and thankful for any small act of kindness. Yes, I was thrilled to polish the apples that went out at noon to the policemen we sent food to their station. Yes, there were even more tears seeing the pictures children from all of the 50 states and the world sent in support. Those pictures were posted everywhere!
