Mom never lectured me.

Mom was never much for lectures. I can’t remember her ever telling me not to smoke. When she caught me smoking in my bedroom at 16, she just closed the bedroom door, and quit smoking. Perhaps she knew that she was my supplies. I had been stealing her cigarettes for months.
Mom was never much for encouraging words. W hen I went through a divorce, she never said much, but she was always there, sewing with me. All I saw were the ashes of my marriage where there was once a warm flame. In her own quiet way, mom helped me to believe that goodness and love could happen in my life again.
You might have guessed that I have learned from my mom and seldom lectured my sons when they were small.
