Relief efforts are not easy
Wednesday, September 04, 2019
There has been an outpouring of relief and other gestures from around the world and locally. So the challenge is now to get the supplies to the people. The docks are destroyed, the airports are underwater. The airports that are useable are cut off because the roads leading to and from are impassable. So helicopters are being used - mainly from the US. Then everything has to be organized for distribution.
I saw on Facebook where the veterinary association is mobilizing and seeking donations for animals - they said dogs and some one commented "what about the cats?". Some of the post to social media are so funny. One lady said she heard "the prison guards did not report to work". Some one answered - the prisoners are fine they living better than us. But in the excitement/anxiety there are a lot of craziness posted - I guess they call it 'fake news'. So you gotta be careful with that. But no joke, the situation in Grand Bahama and Abaco is really bad.
