9/2/19 - Bedtime

Monday, September 02, 2019

A cousin I haven't seen in at least forty years stopped by the house today. He lives in Las Vegas and came to Chicago for a short visit. He grew up in the area and spent five days reminiscing. It was great seeing him and catching up.

I heard Canadian geese honking. I looked up to find a couple of dozen in a V formation. Has migration already started? Yikes!

The sun was starting to set, and I pulled out a chair to sit on the patio. After a couple of birds made their last trip to the feeder, I filled it to the top and pulled a few weeds. It was a nice end to a quiet weekend.

Happy Labor Day!!!

I heard geese yesterday too. Mosquitoes would get me if I sat outside at night. They’re still out there! emoticon

Haven't heard or seen any migration around here yet. About the first sight here is the black birds congregating in flocks and they are usually still just a a couple at a time, no big flocks.

We have seen the Vs of geese flying over for a couple of weeks now. They are about 6 weeks earlier than usual. It's waaaay too early! It seems that we've had strange weather in this area since last October. I'm guessing this is the new "normal".

Visiting with family is always so nice, especially if you haven't seen them for forty years.

Hope you had a nice Labor Day. emoticon

The migration has indeed started! I asked DH about a trio of little birds in our yard - I didn't remember seeing them over the summer. He took one look and let me know it's because they DON'T summer here; they were simply on their way through! I've also topped off the hummingbird feeders so the little guys can tank up before heading back to Costa Rica for the winter.

Yup... our geese are coming to stay in your sunny climes for the winter. Have seen many huge Vee's flying high, honking their heads off, coming down from N. Ontario. They follow the Great Lakes shorelines, and we live two blocks from Lake Ontario. emoticon
