No excuses now

Thursday, August 29, 2019

I consulted with an orthopedic surgeon who confirmed that both my knees are bone on bone. However I cannot have surgery until my A1C is down to a 7, (I don't know where it is currently, having blood work done next week), and my BMI is at 40%. I am currently 47%. This will lessen the chance of blood clots, infections, better healing, etc. I love that the surgeon was upfront with me. He sat down and said we needed to have a "hard talk", and it was hard but I am thankful we had it and have a plan in action. I go back in 3 months for a weigh in and support and "hug from staff" if needed. He said he didn't care how long it takes me to get to the goal, he will be there and wait for me. No pressure, its up to me. He is sending me for a bariatric surgery consult, but said that decision is up to me. Some of his patients have the surgery and others don't and follow a diet plan and loose the weight that way. It's an individual choice.

So Tuesday when I arrived home form the appointment I was optimistic, yesterday completely depressed and anxious. Today I am trying to be optimistic again. Going to look at a local gym as per his suggestion to do elliptical and upper body cardio. Unfortunately the local gym doesn't have a pool and I know I won't travel to the city to the YMCA regularly.

Have lots of fresh vegetables from a farmers market so I'm looking forward to cooking this weekend.

So nice to see you back! You might want to get some workout videos. Collage Videos sells nothing but workout videos and I have bought several from there that I use when I can't get to the gym or get outside. Also, try using the nutrition tracker to see where you are at for a week. Just track the food you normally eat to get an idea of what you need to work on, what your trends are, etc. Check out Spark Recipes for lots of healthy ideas-- that's where I go when I don't know what to cook.

You can do this. Remember that we're all in this together.
