Daily Highlight 180 - Needs vs. Wants

Highlight -
I have always been mindful of where our $$$ are allocated. Back when our children were born, we determined if hubby worked two double time days per month that would cover my working for four weeks. That worked out well because I would have been fired anyway because of all the time off needed to care for our middle son. Being a one income family, my mom used to say I could squeeze a nickel so tight the buffalo would sh*t.
There are some things I will not compromise on and sometimes you have to spend more up front to reap the rewards. I always bought the boys good quality socks and shoes, they lasted until the boys out grew them. A friend told me about a great deal on cheap socks... they didn't even last 6 weeks. What???? I cannot be replacing socks every 6 weeks for 3 boys. Sure we didn't have fancy vacations, but we did have fun and I wouldn't go back and change anything.

I spent a $1 more on fragrant organic strawberries, they tasted like they were local and were savored, not gobbled. Satisfying needs is important, wants.. not so much.

Grateful -
Having my needs being met.
Being able to see opportunities.
For evolving.

Good for you -- spending wisely with a view to real needs (which INCLUDE organic stranberries!!) I love our local Ontario strawberries, now grown for a longer season in greenhouses too . . . very small and bright red all the way through, smell wonderful and taste divine. Do they cost more? Yes. Are they worth it? Yes yes yes.

OH I agree! Though I did work in the home when the kids were growing up, we budgeted and lived on DH's salary only. Funny, my Dad said I could make a penny squeak! Ok, so we're both good budgeters! Yup!

I sometimes convince my psyche that wants are needs. Such a child sometimes. (smiling)

It is good to discern as you do and prioritize. Sometimes the old saying, "You get what you pay for" fits in certain things; I don't buy cheap socks either, but buy them when needed at the annual half off sale. Other things, have to weigh. Good job on being wise with your resources!
