And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you re still in your sins!
1 Corinthians 15:17
The "Ostrich Effect" is a term used by financial professionals to describe the avoidance of risky financial situations by denying the risk actually exists. The label comes from the long-held (false) belief that ostriches bury their heads in the sand to avoid seeing an approaching predator or other danger. (They supposedly do this to ingest sand and pebbles that help to grind up food in their gizzard).
Denying reality is a human weakness, the most dangerous form of which is to deny the reality of sin. To deny we are dead in our trespasses and sins doesn't change the fact that we are (Ephesians 2:1). To believe that we can be saved by good works in spite of our sin doesn't change the fact that we can't (Ephesians 2:8-9). When the apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians about the resurrection of Jesus, he said that if the resurrection didn't happen, we are still in our sins.
When it comes to sin, denial is a life-or-death matter. Thankfully, God has provided a remedy for those who want to be saved from their sin.
