Sunday Brings Me Back To Normal

Monday, August 26, 2019

After a rough few days, Sunday came and I'm back to normal! Lesson learned. I'm still supporting my arm when riding in the car. Yesterday my fingers and wrist swelled in the heat. My SIL's house was warm and I could almost sit and watch my hand swell. I couldn't seem to get the swelling to go down. (Think sausage fingers here.). The doctor had told me to ice the parts of the fingers that are sticking out from the cast or the upper arm above the cast. He said that putting an ice pack on the cast is useless. So, I tried it yesterday. I iced my fingers first then moved the ice pack to the upper arm. It worked like a charm! Within ten minutes, all of the swelling went down.

Today, we visited some friends in our old stomping grounds. As I moved around more, the swelling began. I had hubby turn up the fan on the air conditioning, in the car, and I sat with my fingers in front of the vent. Voila! The swelling in both the fingers, hand and wrist went down. Once the swelling goes down, so does the pain. I also took a small decorative pillow with me today to support my arm.

For the past several days, I've been a sodium sleuth. When I watch my sodium level, My hand doesn't swell as badly, plus, I don't retain as much fluid overall. I had a few poor eating days last week, when I didn't pay very close attention to my sodium intake. I ate for comfort (as well as nutrition) but I didn't pay attention and the scale jumped five pounds. The high sodium for four days really took a toll. That blasted swelling was the result. The five pounds are now gone!

The best news is that the shoulder pain is gone, the wrist pain is manageable and my eye has stopped twitching! Life as we know it is back to normal.

So glad that the icing and the sodium monitoring has offered some relief . . . we never value normal more than when we've just recovered it!

So glad you are figuring out how to handle your challenges. So glad icing is helping. Do be careful, though. Remember I had "ice burn" from over-icing my shoulder. Ice carefully!

Swelling (inflammation) can be SO incredibly uncomfortable as you well know! I am SO happy that the icing is working like a charm. Icing is quite powerful and over the years I've seen so many poo, poo it. Oh well.

I'm just glad you're an open-minded person and are feeling so much better. emoticon

You are getting to be such an expert! You amaze me for as long as you have lived with these things and you are still a shining star for us! I always think of you when I do something like a boo-boo and I think, "If Cyndi can do it, I can do it TOO!!!" God bless your little heart for lifting us all up when you have a problem. And you get your little bonuses as you go too like the eye not twitching (very aggravating, I know) and a NORMAL life even as we know it is such a wonderful thing!
