8/25/19 - Bedtime

Sunday, August 25, 2019

I finally got around to making the zucchini burrito boats, and they were very flavorful. Next time, I will leave them in the oven longer because the zucchini wasn't quite tender enough. I already had all the ingredients I needed, so there was no running around.

As I type, I'm sitting next to an open window. It's dark, there is a cool breeze, I can hear the crickets, and here comes an airplane.

Although I live in a suburb just northwest of Chicago and near O'Hare, I'm a couple of blocks from a forest preserve and within five miles of the Des Plaines River. That's why I have all sorts of critters in my back yard. Not too long ago, there was a deer trotting up the street heading towards its home. I've seen fox and coyotes too. When we had metal garbage cans, we put bricks on the lids to keep the raccoons from opening them up.

Sweet dreams everyone!!!

Leslie

The city where I live is so busy cutting down woods and building condos that most of the wildlife have all but disappeared. They do keep some land heavily forested and there is a lot of farmland within walking distance of where my house is, at least. I have been told by a city representative that developers have to plant trees for every tree they cut down, but it still irks the .......out of me.........
Before the Federal government shut down Mirabel international airport (talk about a white elephant, and all the farmers that lost their land😡) we were in a flight corridor. Sometimes the planes past so low, it was scary.....

Sounds like you have the best of both worlds. You have all the amenities of city living with the bonus of the country life and the critters that live there. Nice! Bricks don't stop the raccoons here; we tie the cans shut with bungee cords. Ahh...the joys of country living. emoticon

Happy Monday!! Have a wonderful week.

I'll remember to check out that area next time I'm in the windy city to visit my cousin (altho I refuse to fly onto ORD!) so we'll likely drive.
