REWARDS OR REGRETS?
God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it;...you have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting...your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
Jesus frequently used images from the agrarian world to illustrate His teaching. On one occasion, Paul did the same in Galatians 6:7. Like seeds that eventually come to fruition and harvest, so all people will reap the fruit of their lives. To point out the seriousness of this truth, Paul warned his readers, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked," when it comes to holding man accountable.
God is longsuffering and always leaves room for repentance. To illustrate, He allowed the ruler of Babylon, Belshazzar, seventeen years to repent of his ways before finally stepping in and judging King and kingdom alike. It happened on the night of Belshazzar's drunken feast when a hand appeared and wrote a message of judgment on the wall. The words of the message suggested that God's evaluation had been a process, and that night was the harvest. Belshazzar reaped what he had sown.
Life is a process of sowing seed by word and by deed, and the harvest is inevitable. Make sure that your judgment results in rewards instead of regrets (1 Corinthians 3:11-15).
