Day 230: Much Love & Hugs

Sunday, August 18, 2019

"I don't have to be perfect. All I have to do is show up and enjoy the messy, imperfect and beautiful journey of my life. It's a trip more wonderful than I could have imagined." (Kerry Washington)

Happy Sunday, my lovely friends!!!

Thank you so much for the supports and suggests from yesterday’s blog about getting myself back on track. That’s one of the many things that I love about Sparkpeople, the support we all give each other. Admitting that you failed at something is not easy, but the positive side is you can try again. That’s exactly what I’m going to do, get up and try again.

I appreciate all the suggests and noticed the Keto diet was mentioned a few times, but my doctor has been talking about the Mediterranean diet because if my love for pasta. I really love all kinds of pasta and do like the new one made with different grains and other things. I mean my go-to meal is pasta with lemon, black pepper, and parmesan cheese. I do have a book on the diet and what to eat and will pull that out today and start reading it. My eating is pretty good, but it’s the snacking that is the big problem. Today I’m clearing out my snack bin (yes, I said bin) and getting rid of the stuff. I just can’t keep them in the house because I’ll want to eat them, and we all know that’s not good. I’m going to work on a menu for the week.

Today is my Grandma’s 94th birthday. That is just incredible, it really is. We’re going to go down later in the week to celebrate with her. Tomorrow is Cuinn’s birthday and he’s going to be 27, WOW! That still shocks me because I remember when he was born. Still crossing our fingers that he’ll be able to come back out for Halloween. We already have some fun ideas for him.

The heat is back and it’s going to be 96 today, ugh! Is it winter yet? Have a great Sunday!

emoticon to your grandmother. Pasta is not a good thing when you are diabetic. Your doctor knows this and this is something you should fully discuss with him. Even the wheat or other types of pasta still spike the glucose index. The lower in carbs you can manage the better for your diabetes.

A nutritionist is also a suggestion. Someone who is trained to know how to help you live and help your diabetes. You love to plan and organize that is something that is a total plus for you. Research diabetes, I mean understand how it affects a body totally, and how spiking the blood sugars is not a good thing.

It has taken me years to wake up to this. I have done damage to my body I cannot reverse, but I can do better and not make it any worse. I went to free hospital classes on the disease. My own doctor was not much help other than warning that things will get worse. It took time, effort, and work to get to the understand that I have now. There are many, many websites, articles, books, meal plans, and associations affiliated with this. If your diabetes is not in the danger zone, then be smart and start doing things to bring it under control. Like I said you can cure it, or at least reverse it. I rather have my diabetes "resolved" as opposed to the way I was.

Getting off my soapbox now. Just know Paula I wish you all the best and want the absolute best for you. Learn from my mistakes.

Happy birthday too your grandfather and Cuinn.

Have to agree w/MORTICIA. Unfortunately, breads and pastas are not your friend. Zoodles, Shirataki noodles are all good subs. good luck.

"Trying" and failing isn't as harmful if you are healthy and dieting to lose weight, though it does create problems. Trying and failing isn't okay if you are diabetic and wanting to keep your eyesight. As a diabetic you should check out low glycemic load diets if you don't like lower carb diets. You need to eat plenty of fiber that will come from veggies, low glycemic load fruits, seeds, and nuts. If you eat pasta I suggest that you might want to switch to shirataki noodles. Pasta and bread are not a diabetic's friend. They are highly processed, minimal nutrition, and wasted calories. They convert to sugar readily. Whole grain ones are often worse for blood sugar. Don't take our word for it. Do some research online. While some diets may help you control your diabetes they will not help you get rid of it.
