Eye update for August 14, 2019

Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Well, I had my glaucoma evaluation this morning. My pressures were a bit high and since I have a history of up and down pressures, and after getting pictures of my optic nerve the doctor decided I have early glaucoma.
So, I have a bottle of eye drops that I will use twice daily. They're Timolo Maleate 0.5% eye drops. One drop in each eye twice a day. I return to see him on November 1st to see how things are going. I have to make sure that they're 12 hours apart and get them in first thing when I get up.I haven't used them yet. I got home late so I opted to start tonight. Will get the first drops in shortly.
He told me that with glaucoma I will lose peripheral vision first. So add that to the wet macular degeneration where I lose central vision. Sucks big time. At least with the macular degeneration so far getting the occasional shot in the eye has restored my vision completely. I've had a total of 7 shots in both eyes total in the past 10 1/2 years so that's not bad. At least I don't have to have monthly shots, (knock on wood).
I hope these drops don't cause eye pain like the last drops I was prescribed. Oh the pain was awful after I took them a month, so my doctor stopped them.
So now I'm reading up on glaucoma so I know what's going on with that part of my eye. Both can cause blindness. Boy that bites.
So I'm working on genealogy as much as I can stand in a day everyday. I really need to study but I've just read the lessons. I'm waiting on my new printer to arrive so I can print out the other three lessons and get them all together. I want to try and get the questions answered and get a notebook set up with the lessons in it.
I need to work on my cookbooks that I'm writing but I just don't have the heart to do it right now. Too many things are priority and there's not enough me to do them all.
Thanks for stopping by. Sending you all love, hugs and prayers.

Good luck to you...my DH found that the ingredient timolol reacted negatively with his Afib heart med, so beware if you have that issue! The med Travatan Z has been very effective in controlling his pressure for the past several years.

I too have glaucoma and am on the same drops. I have been using them for a year now and they don't hurt or sting, but they do slow down the progression of glaucoma. I just found out last month that my cataracts are at a point to be removed, I said I would wait until next year for that. Me big CHICKEN Have a blessed Day and God bless you.

I have been on those drops for about 3 years. So far they are holding my pressure down. I agree it sucks to have eye issues. Praying these don't cause issues for you.
