A young couple drove several miles down a country road, not saying a word.

--World Calligraphy Day: a salute to the art in written form; all civilizations through the centuries have had different forms and versions of calligraphy.
--Tattoo Removal Day: purposely on a day that is about 30 days after Tattoo Day, today is about learning what you can do to remove a tattoo that you may now regret; today raises awareness of the safety issue to get it done by a certified professional; a side take on today is mistakes need not be permanent and can be resolved.
--In 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act that established the financial safety net for the aged and the infirm.
--In 1975, the Rocky Horror Picture Show opened in London to weak reviews but did later become an iconic production.
--World Lizard Day: a salute to these reptiles that can vary in size from a few centimeters as such some chameleons and geckos to the 3 meter long Komodo dragon; they are wide-spread with lots of varieties; a visit to the zoo's reptile house may be in order.
--V-J Day: although officially celebrated on the second Monday of August, today is when WWII ended as Japan surrendered; so many iconic pictures from that day such as the sailor kissing the nurse in NYC Times Square.
