I decided to come back to SP after a long hiatus. I was getting tired of not feeling good and I knew it all came down to the extra pounds I have put on throughout the last 10 years. My goal is to get healthy enough to: Get off my blood pressure medication - Be able to go hiking with my husband without feeling like I'm going to pass out if I take more than 5 steps up a hill - go kayaking - go fly fishing - all those fun things I want to do when I retire in a few years. So I really started keeping track the beginning of June. I log all my food and exercise. I am trying to be realistic. I know myself...I can't stop eating bread & potato, just can't, so I decided to not give anything I really like up. I try very hard to not go over my calorie range for the day. I weigh and measure everything. Since I started I have lost 18 pounds, slow but sure. But I realized this was what would work best for me so I don't feel deprived of my favorite foods. I have however, added more fruits and yogurt. I rarely eat anything fried. So far I am happy with my progress, my clothes fit better and I'm sleeping a bit better. I have to remind myself not to get too focused on the scale and sometimes I have to really force myself to get up early to get my exercise in before work. I had to really remind myself that this isn't a diet, it's the way I am always going to have to live if I want to be healthy. Imagine that, isn't that what they've been telling us all along!
