Who am I related to?
Monday, August 12, 2019
Those of you who know me, know that I am related to Wild Bill Hickok. My Great Grandfather, Harrison Hickok was Cousins with JB. (James Butler Hickok) That was his real name. How someone came up with the name Wild Bill I will never understand. Anyway, I was trying to find online a picture of Harrison Hickok, as I have never seen a pic of him. I googled his name, and found a web site I have never seen before. It's called "Famous People Related to Wild Bill Hickok" Hmmm..I had to check it out. It was a eye opener. All I can say is thank you to the person that went out of his way to find all of the info. So without further ado, I will take a person or two at a time and give you in info I found (long list). Some people I was thrilled to be related to, others maybe not so much, but that is life.
Rev. John Robinson
Pastor of the Mayflower Pilgrims in Leiden
According to the The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica Rev. Robinson was born in 1575, Sturton-le-Steeple, Nottinghamshire, Eng.—died March 1, 1625, Leiden, Netherlands. He started his own Church because he didn't want to conform to the Church of England. In 1609 he went with 100 of his followers to Leiden to escape the dissension prevalent among the various other Nonconformist groups. As pastor at Leiden, Southern Holland, he inspired the growth of his congregation to 300 members. One of them, William Bradford, who later became governor of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. Some of his congregation left for New England on the Speedwell. A few months later more people from his congregation left for New England on the Mayflower. Unfortunately Robinson died before he could leave Holland, but his writings and teachings carried on. There is a plaque in CT. dedicated to Rev. Robinson, as he was a very admired man. Robinson had two Sons and one Daughter who married Thomas Blossom. Their Daughter married Israel Butler. They had two Sons James and Benjamin Butler. James Butler had a Daughter Polly Butler, who is James Butler Hickok's (Wild Bill) Mom. James Butler is 6th Great-Grandson to Rev. Robinson.
