Last week, my friends Martina, Sue and I enjoyed a great trip to Washington state’s North Cascade mountains and Orcas Island. It was a beautiful vacation.
We traveled first to the Methow valley. After our first LONG driving day, we enjoyed an evening walk along the nature trail at Sun Mountain.
We ate dinner at the lovely lodge. Unfortunately, the service was slow, the meal was expensive, and the portions were minuscule. At least I wasn’t tempted to order dessert!
The next day, we enjoyed a stunningly beautiful hike to Blue Lake. I enjoyed hiking through the woods, but the real reward came when we reached higher elevation and saw the views of the mountains and rocks spires.
The blue color of the lake was much more intense when we hiked up to the rock rim above the lake.
The drive along the N. Cascades Highway is beautiful. We stopped for several short hikes and viewpoints

We drove to Anacortes to catch our ferry. While we waited for the ferry, I enjoyed taking the nature walk along the shoreline.
A great blue heron was displaying its wings. It looks like a curtsy.
Our destinations, orcas Island, was very beautiful. We attended a retreat for several days. I volunteered trimming the trees ( volunteers on various projects for cabins and meals at reduced rates). The food was vegetarian and very healthy. Between the exercise and healthy eating, I lost weight.
Here are a few photos from Orcas Island.
It was a really fun trip with good friends.
