Great Washington Vacation

Friday, August 09, 2019

Last week, my friends Martina, Sue and I enjoyed a great trip to Washington state’s North Cascade mountains and Orcas Island. It was a beautiful vacation.

We traveled first to the Methow valley. After our first LONG driving day, we enjoyed an evening walk along the nature trail at Sun Mountain.

We ate dinner at the lovely lodge. Unfortunately, the service was slow, the meal was expensive, and the portions were minuscule. At least I wasn’t tempted to order dessert!

The next day, we enjoyed a stunningly beautiful hike to Blue Lake. I enjoyed hiking through the woods, but the real reward came when we reached higher elevation and saw the views of the mountains and rocks spires.

The blue color of the lake was much more intense when we hiked up to the rock rim above the lake.

The drive along the N. Cascades Highway is beautiful. We stopped for several short hikes and viewpoints

We drove to Anacortes to catch our ferry. While we waited for the ferry, I enjoyed taking the nature walk along the shoreline.

A great blue heron was displaying its wings. It looks like a curtsy.

Our destinations, orcas Island, was very beautiful. We attended a retreat for several days. I volunteered trimming the trees ( volunteers on various projects for cabins and meals at reduced rates). The food was vegetarian and very healthy. Between the exercise and healthy eating, I lost weight.

Here are a few photos from Orcas Island.

It was a really fun trip with good friends.

How refreshing to read your blog. I am in the middle of helping my brother build a shed......in Texas. We have to stop around 12:30 because it is so hot. So your pictures helped cool me off. And by the way, I'm 75 and he is 69. Healthy active living allows you to do so much more than you think you can do.

Once again, the beauty is magnificent!!! And, how wonderful that all 3 of you are able to hike the trails. You are so smart to have kept up with your hiking abilities. Thank You for your good wishes re: my endoscopy. The procedure went well and the results were good, but right before the procedure started, my heart went crazy and I was admitted to the hospital right after the recovery room. They gave me medication to get my heart back in a normal rhythm and I was stable all night and the next day, so they let me come home on Thursday afternoon. I now have to take medication to thin my blood and to prevent clots and probably will be on this for the rest of my life. I will do more reading on A-Fib to see if I will ever get to a place where I don't need the meds, but I doubt that this is the case. It seems like it is "Always Something" lately. Stay active Alison...……...as I am sure that you will. Ken will be in Oregon from September 3rd through the 7th, visiting his oldest brother in Klatskanie. I wanted to be a part of this trip, but my body is NOT allowing me to travel at this time. It would have been the perfect time to possibly meet you...…………. emoticon
