The Big Duck Building in Flanders, Long Island, NY...and sugar

This is for EO4WELLNESS, in response to her blog about oddities found in public spaces. It used to be surrounded by a duck farm, years ago.

So...the sugar part of my blog. I had sugar a couple of days ago, lots of sugar. I don't usually eat sugar. The following evening, I had insomnia. Woke up at 3 am, couldn't fall back to sleep. This used to be routine for me, and I was used to functioning (or some semblance of it) with minimal sleep. I had to stay home. I can't function on very little sleep any more.

I made the connection. I used to eat a lot of sugar then. Now I have a whole wheat fig bar every now and then, and sometimes, a chocolate mousse I make with soft tofu that has a small amount of maple syrup in it. I eat lots of fruit and vegetables.

I told myself I could have the sugar for the August birthday celebration at work, since I have an August birthday. I also had chocolate, a homemade lollypop given to me as a birthday person gift. Not only did I have a sleepless night, preceeded by anxiety-ridden dreams, but I was ravenously hungry all morning today, and was tempted to hit the vending machine. I didn't. I had some raw veggies and hummus, and an apple. I ate these, and they were delicious and filling.

I had been cutting back on snacks, which I tend to over do, especially at work. No I am back to being ravenous all morning. Oh well, another learning experience. Thank God I take the time to chop up raw vegetables every day.

This has been very educational for me. I may just have a big fruit salad when my birthday comes at the end of the month.

    Fruit salad sounds great OR maybe some fresh berries with a flavoured low sugar yogurt? Add a square or two of the darkest chocolate you can find and sing a rousing Happy Birthday to Me!!!! emoticon emoticon

    I eat a starchivore diet and find that if I'm hungry later, I just eat a little more of my lunch, later. Like, I eat until I'm comfortably full, but leave a little bit for a later snack. It's all healthy, it keeps me full without wanting something that isn't healthy. Does that make sense?

    Thanks for sharing about sugar. I'm having very small amounts these days, and I can't believe how much better I have.
