08/07/19 Rules of Success

Wednesday, August 07, 2019

"There are two rules for success: 1. Never reveal everything you know. 2. "

"Sometimes I feel like throwing in the towel but you know what that means…more laundry."

A young priest gets up in the morning and goes to breakfast. On his way there two nuns look at him and he says, “Good morning sisters”.

They reply in a sing song manner, “You got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”

This stuns the priest who thought he had been very polite but he just goes on. He encounters a Brother a little while later along the way and he says, “Good morning Brother.”

The Brother replies in a sing song voice, “You got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”

The priest was very confused at this and goes on. He gets a little farther and he comes across a fellow priest and he says, “Good morning Father.”

The priest replies in a sing song manner, “You got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”

Now the priest was mad. He continues his walk to the dinning hall not saying a word to anyone. The Bishop sees him and says, “Father …”

The young priest was not going to take any more, even from the Bishop. He looks at the Bishop and says, “No I did not get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”

The Bishop looks at him stunned and says “What?”

The priest realized his mistake and said “I am sorry your holiness, what is it you wanted.”

The bishop looks at him and says, “All I was going to do was ask you why you had on Sister Ann’s shoes?”

It's National Beach Party Day! Today is all about the fun and sun on the beach. If you can't get to the beach today, watch a beach party movie. Remember Annette Funicello? (If you don't, just google her.)
--Aged Care Employee Day: observed in Australia, today honors the professionals of all levels who take care of the senior citizens; the US could take a page out of Australia's book.
--National Lighthouse Day: a salute to an important part of seafaring history and they evoke such a variety of emotions; today commemorates when, in 1789, Congress approved the act to establish and support lighthouses, beacons, buoys, and public piers to protect those at sea; the Coast Guard maintains the remaining working lighthouses.
--National Sea Serpent Day: today commemorates the 1848 sighting from the HMS Daedalus on its trip to Saint Helena in the South Atlantic; sea serpents and sea dragons were common in ancient mythologies; it is thought they were inspired by the oar fish that can grow to 50 feet in length but is elusive as it stays deep in the depths.
--Particularly Preposterous Packaging Day: we've all suffered through this--packaging that needs a sledgehammer just to open and ends up in a landfill; today is for all of us who have struggled with packaging that inspired frustrations and more; in the mid-2000's, the Consumer Reports gave out Oyster Awards to the most difficult packaging for the year.
--Professional Speakers Day: a salute to the professionals who stand on the stage and speak about any topic, to impart lessons with the spoken word.
--Purple Heart Day: this Badge of Military Merit was created by George Washington in 1782 to recognize distinguished action in battle, a heart on a field of purple; the badge was discontinued until 1932 when it was brought back in honor of George Washington, with the addition of Washington's profile in the center of the heart on the field of purple; originally for the Army, the eligible recipients would expand as the military branches expanded.
--Raspberries 'n Cream Day: no info as to why today but with raspberries, who needs a reason?; celebrate today with a bowl of fresh raspberries, topped with cream.
--Regatta Day: observed in the Newfoundland and Labrador regions of Canada, the boat races go back to the 1800's, on the first day of August; if the weather isn't conducive to sailing, then it's just a day off.
