Or, more accurately, something popped up that I'd forgotten about, when lamenting the other day that there was nothing of note happening this weekend. There was a fundraiser for my hometown's "Heritage Festival", which was rebranded as the Ypsifest a couple of years ago. Got to see a few familiar faces, enjoy a couple of brews (the cherry cider/blueberry wheat beer combination is better than either of the components on their own. I'll have to remember that the next time I got to the Ypsi Alehouse). Got to witness the re-union of a couple of gentlemen who'd worked together in the 80s and 90s. Apparently, one of the guys is married to one of the Ypsifest board members, who has been working with the other guy for the past year planning this event, but they just never made the connection. It was a funny, and touching moment.
Perhaps next year I'll join in on the planning board. I coulda shoulda done so this year, seeing how I try and volunteer for the event itself every year, and have known the main organizer for nearly 35 years (went to school with his kids, and played soccer for his son while I was in high school). But it wasn't really on my radar, during the winter/spring months when extra hands might have done the most good. Oh well.
