Joys and sorrows

Thursday, August 01, 2019

On June 29, my DDIL’s father died in his sleep. It was a total shock to everyone. Luckily we were able to go to them and help with DGD, while DDIL helped her mom and siblings deal with the shocks, the funeral and all those details. So proud of how my DS jumped into help where he could. The whole event reminded DH and I to make sure our kids know how our finances are arranged and what our wishes are. It has made for some interesting conversations. DH wants trees planted in his memory and wants any service to be one that brings solace to the mourners.
Next week we go visit my DS in Colorado for a week, then 5 days after we get back, DGD is coming for a five day visit, we’re taking her home to spend a long weekend. When we return, we will begin a complete renovation of our master bathroom. Never have done a like this before, it’s been quite a journey already.

My sympathies to your extended family.

My mother died (expected) 2 months ago. There is a lot to do re funeral and financial when someone close dies. Fortunately Mum and I had many discussions re her wishes, both while she was alive and dead, and as I had Power of Attorney in her life, and am Executor re her Will, her wishes are easily reached. Having that conversation with your family AND ensuring your wishes are also written in the form of a legal Will are also very important. Unfortunately a lot of families put off having that talk. Put it off too long and it is too late.

    Hugs,
