How much of routine, is, well, routine? Routine can be reassuring, or it can be stifling. Some is necessary. Getting up in time for work every day. Paying bills.
How much do we do routinely that we don't give any thought to? That's part of it; the convenience of managing tasks without constant consideration of minutiae. But what about routines that we participate in that are not good for us? Or that are taking the place of something else more interesting and rewarding that we might be doing instead? Why are these routines so difficult for us to see and change? Because they answer some inner need. It may be causing us harm, but if we find comfort in our routine, we don't see the damage.
Sooner or later, though, if we are able to become somewhat more self aware, the path opens to change.
This peach is what I ate today instead of cake that someone brought in. I'll bet mine tasted better. I love summer fruit.
