Sad day today

I was awakened by a phone call from my cousin this morning. I knew when I saw who was calling that my Aunt had passed away. She's been in the nursing home since February. She had congestive heart failure plus has had several mild heart attacks and strokes/mini strokes since January.
My cousins and I were close to my Aunt. She turned 91 on February 27th. We had a mini birthday party for her at the nursing home but she got sick. Her doctor (who's also mine) said that she'd had a heart attack and stroke.
My Mom died January 30th, 1983 and since then my Aunt and I have been especially close. She's been mistaken for being my Mom many times. She's been like a Mom to me since then. We've been through so much together over the years. The good times and the not so good times like when my uncle had Alzheimer's. My son and I helped her so many times with him when he'd fall in the floor or to get him out of his chair. I made sure to get her out of the house as much as I could, taking her to run to the grocery store or Dollar General. I also took her to our favorite thrift shop. After he died, my cousins and I got her an apartment at the senior complex. I continued to help her up until last year when she moved to another town. As I couldn't drive, my cousins and other Aunt took over her care.
In honor of her 90th birthday last year, I wrote and self-published a cookbook of her recipes. She was so tickled when she saw her copy of the cookbook. Cooking was her passion for many years. She was a hard worker all her life.
As I was looking through a bunch of my photos this morning, so many memories come to mind. Plus as I looked through them, so many of the people in those photos are no longer with us, as well as our dogs.
Then, it was messaging cousins that no one had their phone numbers. So it's been a busy sad day.
The best thing is she is no longer suffering and in pain. She's earned her wings today. She has been through hell on this earthly plane. Now she's reunited with all of her siblings and parents in Heaven.
Thank you for reading this post.
