Oh come on SP / Spark Couch Jen!!! (Day 4 of my 31 day blog challenge)

Monday, July 22, 2019

On Sunday, July 21, 2019, I posted to the community form about the content of my gym locker. I admitted that I paid to rent a locker at my gym. That on the door of said locker was a picture of Wonder Woman, a motivational quote, and a picture of Jesus Christ. The quote was giving to me by my favorite instructor at the gym, and was about ditching the diets and embracing a healthy lifestyle. The picture of Wonder Woman was for inspiration. The picture of Jesus was to remind me to be Christ like when out in the gym dealing with my fellow members. It also reminds me that when my body gets tired, that Jesus loves me anyway, and that through the Lord all things, even weightloss, is possible. As it was Sunday I thought I would be safe to add a bit of my beliefs, along with an image of my savior.

I was wrong…

I have seen some far more religious post on the SP community feed then my post about the content of my gym locker. However, that evening I received a email from Spark Coach Jen:

Hello
We don't allow religious posts in the Community, except on personal SparkPages or SparkTeams of a religious nature, so I had to delete your post in the feed. Sorry about that.
Jen

I want to say that I respect the intent. But, I am sadden to discover that SP is just one more form were people are discouraged from being truly open and honest about who they are. There are so few places where everyone is safe to express what they believe. I am sure that there are folks on SP that only come for the points, recipes, daily workouts, ect., ect. I enjoy that stuff as well. But, believe the true power of SP is the members being allowed to be open with one and other.

I have read many a community post, or blog that had nothing to do with diet, exercise, or living a healthy lifestyle. And I have personally read many "come to Jesus" SP community posts. But, that is the beauty of SP, it is not all about diet, exercise. Sometimes living a healthy lifestyle means posting about your dog, your hunt for the perfect home, you disappointment at getting the wrong thing you ordered from Amazon. And any belief you have that gives you the power to get up every day…. Be that God, Jesus, Allah, Buda, the flying spaghetti monster, or the belief that there is no higher power then yourself.

I know…we do not want to offend anyone…Well…

Well, I am not here on SP to offend anyone. I come here to improve myself, and to offer support to those who need the extra push, or to hear some applause. That means that I have to be open and honest with myself and with who I am. My gym locker has a picture of Wonder Woman, a motivational quote, and a picture of Jesus Christ. I take strength from my friends, family, and from the Lord my god.
