The Eagle Has Landed!

4:17 PM Eastern Time on July 20, 1969, a spacecraft carrying men from Earth landed on the moon. CBS News put their coverage on a stream on YouTube. Worth trying to re-wind to that time mark to see Walter Cronkite's and Wally Schirra's immediate reactions right after the touchdown. The giddy schoolboy/delighted rubbing of hands from Cronkite is absolutely delightful, but equally touching is Schirra, one of the original Gemini 7 astronauts, wiping away a tear as his colleagues made it to the moon in one piece.
It's another 6 hours or so, at 10:56 PM Eastern Time, that Neil Armstrong went down the ladder, and took his Giant Leap for Mankind, and Buzz Aldrin joined him another 20 minutes later.
Watching this stream with my dad, and he's recalling watching this 50 years ago, just a year and a half after he immigrated to the United States.
Fascinating stuff, to say the least!
