Saturday Walk

Saturday, July 13, 2019

After a little chat with Runnergirl, Ironman, coach, and chiropractor, I am pretty confident about my recovery plan, especially since Physio now costs $ 110 per 45 minutes. OHIP does not cover this treatment and the waiting list was just too long. She lives, and works, too far out of town for me to get there, but reminded me that the same diagnosis applied to my right knee a few years back. At that time she worked in town, and I remember her telling me what I needed to do. Seems that all the muscles that support the knee must be stretched... but ‘no pain’ is the guide. I have just finished watching an instructional video on the subject, and evidently I’ve forgotten some of these moves. This time I took notes. That IT band is part of the problem. We headed out to the Beach today, in perfect sun. Amazingly found a good parking spot, and off we limped... his foot, my knee. What a pair we are. We found a place to stretch and walked the boardwalk for 40 minutes. That’s when the clouds began to gather to the north, and the breeze picked up. The timing was perfect. As we pulled away from the Beach area, a few huge drops plopped on the windshield, and 5 minutes later, kaboom, heavy rain, sheets of it coming sideways. Low visibility. And flooding ! Not just ponding...but home safe and sound. Many people pulled over, but not my road warrior. That was on a half hour drive...I cannot imagine what a tropical storm would do. Imagine New Orleans, Houston. What is going on ? Is it Global warming ? Climate change ? A bad year ? I think we better figure this one out fast. PS... My knee is improved.
