Let the summer begin!

Sunday, July 07, 2019

Summers are always crazy and this year we've added a couple of new levels of craziness. The cookie business continues to grow and this year I decided to make a big step. We've moved from mainly doing farmers markets to focusing on festivals. This will allow me to work less market days and free up more time for hiking, running and life. Something that has been missing for the last year.

To help keep my focus I did a couple of things.

Signed up for two races in the fall. Both are challenging, one being a intense trail race (12K), the other is a 7 mile easier trail race.

I joined another virtual challenge to run 160 KM in three months, this is my second challenge, I really liked doing this one.

I joined the 5% challenge on here.

Its all great to say I want to stay focused but without accountability and goals its too easy to shrug my shoulders and say "meh, I'll do it tomorrow."

This week the three oldest grandkids are coming to spend the week. We're also starting the addition on our home. Like I said, a couple of extra levels of craziness. They are so excited about spending the week and we have plans for lots of activities, including their first ever time going to the drivein. We'll be taking all five grandkids. That's a whole new level of crazy.

You have a great plan for the summer! I should sign up for a race too, to keep me focused. When I had to prepare for the 12k in Spokane, I was very motivated. I still am, but not as much as I was when I had a race coming up. Your plans with the grandkids sound great! I love drive-ins!

Very exciting plans. It is great that you will have 3 grandchildren, so fun to enjoy them when they are young. And you have really set goals that will help your fitness. Way to go!

Sounds like a busy schedule, but all doable and fun. What is the virtual challenge you are doing? I love challenges, especially virtual ones, but am no longer a runner. Those days are behind me, but DH and I are always out walking and hiking and getting in our steps. Cookies! I would be in trouble! Do you ship!?!

You take life to whole new levels of crazy! Enjoy every minute of it. You have a good plan for keeping a balance between business and your running/hiking goals. You've got this.

That all sounds wonderful! Do you do cookie catering too? If so, if you haven't already, you may want to let all your Farmer's market fans know. We had an amazing bakery near us that even did gluten free, vegan, etc. When the owner closed it to spend more time with her growing family, she started a baked goods catering business where you could pay for delivery. Now she just rents a kitchen space as needed (or maybe in this area you don't have to do that and she got her own kitchen inspected) and she has a thriving business that is a little more family friendly.
